Koh Tao to Georgetown, Malaysia

We left Koh Tao on the night ferry to Surat Thani after a day of hanging around. The night ferry was certainly an experience! The beds were a very thin mattress spread on the floor with 60 people sharing a tiny space. We had the equivalent of half a single bed each with no space in between so there was little room for movement. Having said that, there were opening windows and lots of fans, so I slept pretty well.

We got off the ferry at 5.40am and were picked up by a travel company in a tuk-tuk for a transfer to a restaurant where we were split into groups depending on destination. We were going to Khao Sok National Park. Our bus was due at 6.40am so we were a little confused when we had a transfer to meet the bus somewhere else at 7am. We were dumped on a bench in a closed market whilst we waited and waited some more. It turned out that the initial transfer wasn't in time to meet the bus so we had to wait for the next one. We were finally on a bus to Khao Sok at 8.30am- not the air con minibus that we paid for but at least it was moving, that was until it broke down just outside the park gates. Thankfully a passenger who was also getting off at Khao Sok rang ahead for a tuk tuk to pick us up outside.

Accommodation in Khao Sok was in tree houses which were really cool, complete with a balcony and completely hidden from other's view. It was nice to relax and catch up with the rest of the group in Khao Sok but I didn't do a lot as it rained a lot.

From Khao Sok we headed to Georgetown which is on Penang island in Malaysia. A long day travelling, the most exciting point being a tornado sighting en route. The easiest border crossing that we have had in a while as there were no forms to fill out so we were out of Thailand in into Malaysia in 40 minutes.
